In my last blog post, I discussed some of the benefits of CFL light bulbs and promised to touch on LED lights… I know you all have been waiting with baited breath, so allow me to light it up…

LED bulbs are quickly becoming yet another method of helping the environment and reduce our reliance on electricity.  LED’s are more expensive then CFL bulbs up front, BUT, the LED can last for up to 100,000 hours and can reduce electricity consumption by as much as 90% in your home.  One major disadvantage of the LED: most conventional lighting fixtures can not use them, so look for a lamp with LED’s built into them.

At Lighting Services of Central Florida, we are dedicated to shedding light on lighting topics for our prospects and valued customers.  I thought it would be helpful to illuminate you on how to choose the proper light bulb for your home indoor lighting.

Given the current state of the envrionment and the huge demands of electricity, I thought it would be helpful to discuss the CFL Bulb.  The CFL or Compact Flourencent Bulb is the bulb with the odd shape to it.  They are typically wound up and could remind you of a soft serve ice cream cone (if you are hungry…).  These CFL bulbs use about a 1/4 as much juice as a conventional bulb and last a great deal longer.  The bulbs fit any conventional type of lighting fixture in your home and can also be used in outdoor lighting applications as well.  They are a bit more expensive than conventional bulbs, but as noted, will save you money over the duration of a year. One other minor advantage: the CFL bulbs radiate less heat then standard bulbs, so your air conditioning costs can be somewhat less in the summer.
